BBS Software, Part 1A

The other day, when I discovered that AppleWin could access the physical serial port, I thought to my self, It’s to bad someone hasn’t written a program that pretends to be a modem so you could dial out over the internet with an emulator.

Today, I find there is something along these lines.   TCPSER.  I was on the use group comp.sys.apple2 and saw a posting on The Matrix Returns.

He is running Warp Six BBS on an actual Platinum Apple //e.  It is networked with a Raspberry PI running TCPSER, which pretends to be a modem for the BBS and allows us on the outside to telnet into his BBS, just like we were calling on the phone.  For those interested telnet to matrixreturns.dyndns.org:6401 and enjoy.

Also note that once you sign on he has a list of several other BBS’s that you can actually dial into with a regular modem.
