There are many different ways of acquiring Apple Hardware.
- I bought my first one, an Apple //c, from an Apple dealer. Although this is no longer an option you could find some in second hand shops.
- I was given my second one, a complete Apple //e, by a co-worker. Sometimes you can rescue one by knowing someone who is getting rid of it.
- When the monitor on my Apple //c fell and broke, I looked on eBay and found a replacement. Personally I have bought quite a bit of hardware through eBay.
- Newspapers and classified ads. In Maine and New Hampshire, we have Uncle Henry’s which is published weekly contains all classified ads.
Now as far as pricing goes, that depends on what you want. If you are looking for a collectable, be prepared to pay for it.
What I have done is, just look at the prices people are paying for similar items. For example, if I want a new duo-drive for my Apple //e, I would watch for a while and see what other people are paying for them. This wouldn’t be much of a problem, because the duo-drive is still fairly common.
There are a few items I have looked for that go for a pretty steep price, mostly because they rarely come up for sale. When they do come up for sale, they quickly climb into the greater than $100 range.
For the most part, you can pick up an Apple //e or //c system for about $100
