Its still very quiet on the Apple II front here. I didn’t get to work on Mapper today. Did check the message boards, still pretty quiet there also.
I’ve been doing car stuff (my favorite) today. My oldest daughter was going for her drivers test today; got it first try.
You know how some people have a green thumb and can grow anything? We have a rusty thumb. Cars die young for us or come up with wierd problems. We don’t abuse them. No stupid maneuvers.
I once had a car and bought a set of name brand tires for it. They had this really good guaranty where if they didn’t last they would replace them. We were only getting about 11,000 miles out of a set before the metal belts were starting to come through the tread. We went through two or three sets before they managed to find the problem and fix it. I don’t remember what the problem was but it wasn’t something we were doing.
I had another car that started acting up, couldn’t get it to run right. I took it to my mechanic, who can fix anything and he couldn’t find the problem. He said to take it to a dealer and maybe they could fix it. It cleared up on the way home and never had that problem again.
While we were on our trip, the dash warning lights started acting up. This car was kind of high end when it was new and everything is electrical or goes through the computer. The dash warning lights are the worst and I was afraid they would act up on her test. Today, no warning lights.
Like most cars now, everything is connected to the check engine light. What’s up with that? Gas cap is loose, check engine. Tire pressure is wrong, check engine.
So before the test, we had to replace a tire that went bad. Then we went to get the test and the tester gave us a list of things they test and said they would be out in about ten minutes. We went to the car and double checked the list. Everything was fine except they wanted her to put on the parking brake. It is an automatic and we had never used it before, so she stepped on it and down it went, dash light, lights up and everything. Now to release it, no obvious release. Every other car I have had there was some sort of lever or button to release it, none, nothing. We are both crawling around under the dash, while trying to keep an eye out for the tester. Tried shutting it of and restarting it, no good. Finally had her try to move the car. As soon as she puts it into gear, clunk, up pops the brake. Learned something new.
All this on a work day for both of us.
