Online Shopping

As you may have noticed, I shop online quite a bit.  With the older machines, you almost have to.  If you have also, you may have run into something I’m guilty of.  I sometimes miss important details in the ad.

This month I have done this twice.

One of my orders for diskettes listed a box of new brand name diskettes as ds/dd but the picture clearly showed ds/hd.  Had I noticed it, I could have either questioned the difference, or moved on to the next ad.  I didn’t and received a very nice new box of ds/hd 5 1/4″ diskettes.  My fault for not reading closer.  I haven’t decided what to do about these yet.  I may either try to sell them or, maybe test them to see how they work.

Another instance, I got one of my printer cables in today.  It is the cable for the Mac’s.  I thought the package was a little small and when I opened it, it was small.  Most printer cables I have seen come in either 3 feet or six feet lengths.  This one claims 15″.  If my Mac’s were set up on a desk all the time, that would most likely be too short.  Since, I usually set them up on a table to work with, I can put them a little closer together than I would on a desk where the printer would sit beside the computer.

I would suggest a modification of an old carpenters rule.  (Sorry to all the other professions that use a similar rule.)  The rule says measure twice, cut once.  I suggest, read twice, buy once.

I went back and checked my other printer cable and it is a six foot cable.

As usual, let the buyer beware.
