A Strange Connection

I got to thinking today about something I did the other day.  When I created the simple startup program for my /PRODOSWRITER disk, I wrote the original version on my laptop using  AppleWin.  When it was done I used ZLink on both the real Apple //c and the emulated Apple //e of AppleWin to move a copy of STARTUP from AppleWin to my //c.

What I was thinking about is, how I could use this ability of AppleWin to access a real live serial port?

Other than moving files like I did, the only other thing that springs to mind is a BBS.

I’ve never run a BBS and have no idea which would be best.  I think I will look into a few and see which might work best for me.  I see some real advantages to running a BBS on an emulator, the biggest is storage space.  AppleWin supports two hard disk images of 32MB each.  Another advantage may be the ability to adjust the speed of the emulated Apple //e.  This poses some interesting possibilities to explore.  If it turns into something workable I can move it to my server machine and not tie up my physical Apple //c or //e.
