I spent today working on the other Apple, the Macintosh.
In this case I was working on my Macintosh Plus. I have a Macintosh Plus with a 100MB ZIP drive from Iomega. If you look around the internet you can find articles saying you can use the ZIP drive as a hard drive, but it is rare to find a place that walks you though it.
I acquired a set of disks for OS 6.0.8 and a copy of the Iomega driver 4.2. It must be a version lower than 5 in order to make it bootable on the Macintosh Plus. I was able to order the set of OS 6.0.8 disks from Rescue My Classic Mac and put their link up.
I spent the afternoon making a bootable ZIP disk for my Macintosh Plus and notes to share on how I did it.
I’ve rearranged my New User Kit adding a section for the Macintosh. Under the Macintosh, I’ve added a page Creating a Bootable ZIP Disk for your Macintosh Plus.
I have some other ideas for the New User Kit under Macintosh but have to work on them. Suggestions are more than welcome.
I agree, trying to prepare a New User Kit for the vintage Macintosh is quite the challenge, given the broad spectrum of machines out there, and the two CPU architectures.
I personally lean more toward covering the compact Macs. They are the ones I have, and have worked with in the past. I’m not locked into that though.
