Dynasty, Hamurabi, Spyglass

One of my PC’s died a couple of weeks ago and a replacement I bought a week ago arrived today.  That cut into my free time for the Apple II.

I didn’t really have time to work on any of my current projects, so I made a quick run of the usenet to see if anything caught my eye.  I’ve recently found a group I didn’t belong to comp.sys.emulators.apple2 and have been slowly reading it.

I’ve mentioned before, I like text based games, so a posting titled ‘Dynasty text based game’ caught my eye.  Bradley Ehn asked about Dynasty and schmidtd replied with a link to MacGui’s vault.  Apparently, it is based on Hamurabi, a program that has been a project of mine, both in the past and currently.

I’ve downloaded the disk image from the vault and it included Hamurabi as well as Dynasty and several other games similar to Hamurabi.  This is like a little gift bag of text based games that need to be tried out at the very least.

One very handy tool added to the vault just recently is Spyglass which lets you look inside the disk image right there online.  You can look at individual files or even download them.

One of the most useful features of Spyglass is that it allows you to link to a file within a disk image. For example, here is a link to the Hamurabi program from your disk images list:

The screen shots on MacGui are a great feature, but Spyglass is awesome. When you are looking for a program, being able to look at screen shots is nice, but being able to quickly look at the actual file just blows my mind. This is an amazing feature.

I’m glad that you find it useful. This is just the beginning: there is more work to do, more improvements coming soon.
