I spent quite a while playing Ultima I today. Compared to today’s high resolution graphics Ultima I is on the very low end of the scale. The sound is not even that good, but altogether the game play is actually pretty enjoyable. I traveled around the countryside fighting thieves and enemy knights Later, I entered a dungeon and fought thieves, rats and skeletons. It is still easy to see why so many became addicted to Ultima and it’s many relatives.
Ultima has relatives in the form of sequels. Ultima was followed by Ultima II through V, during which time Ultima was rewritten and renamed Ultima I. It’s most current relative is Lord of Ultima which is an online game played by many. I’ve been playing Lord of Ultima for about a month now. It is browser based and free to play on line.
I’m going to continue to play Ultima I in my spare time, as well as Lord of Ultima.
